Bit of a busy few months. Summary points are below:
- Started new role (Assistant Headteacher i/c Digital Transformation) – technically from September, but honestly, including it here as a big change in my life.
- Became a governor in my step daughter’s primary school; they called for action and support, and I felt suitably able to provide it! Having found out about my specialism in Physics, Maths and all things technology, I was appropriately allocated to oversee Performing Arts, Music, Art and Design Technology. This will be a great opportunity to expand my strategic skillset while adding value to my step-daughter’s (and other’s) education both directly and indirectly.
- Dislocated a finger playing rugby, then subsequently suffered a long oblique shaft fracture of the finger next to it in the next game! No rugby or weight lifting until mid Jan 2025 at the earliest!
- Due to lack of rugby and gym time, naturally lower appetite continued, resulting in 8kg of weight loss, putting me down to 101kg.
- A few casual comments of looking skeletal abounded. Nevermind.
- New fireplace and chimney liner delivered and fitted. This involved removal of the gas fire (not condemned, just terrible efficiency and boo to fossil fuel usage), a relined chimney with 306 Stainless steel (circa 10m worth), and a new log burner! 5kW, with great efficiency and it blasts out the heat! No complaints.
- Subsequent delivery of a ton-bag of “aged hardwood logs” – they were definitely hardwood, not particularly well aged (hello moisture-meter)… Sitting at approx 22-28% water content. Luckily had enough to tide us over until the new batch dried out.
- New addition to the family – Lyra Florence Jones. Born at 3.08am, 22nd November, weighing in a respectable 6lbs 8oz. Whirlwind delivery, but all who see her are besotted! First child of mine (that I know about) but 3rd within the house and family! Doggies appropriately in love (she cannot yet feed them, so tempered love) and Ampere the Hermann Tortoise is blissfully unaware. Frustrated that she already has more hair than me. - Finally, hosted Christmas, with all (5!!!) of us, 2 dogs, tortoise joined by H’s parents for 2 nights. Did a 5 rib of beef and a goose, both on the Kamado Big Joe (hugely successful) and enough sides to feed a small army.
